Database Options 2
Database Thumbnail Storage
Generally you will not require Database Thumbnails as Smart Pix caches thumbnails on your hard-drive, however you may prefer database thumbnails if you are shipping a database on CD-ROM, want to be able to view thumbnails for CD-ROMs that are not loaded or for extra security. Please note that for images stored within the database Smart Pix will store a thumbnail within the database.
There are three settings:
If this option is selected then no thumbnails will be stored within database (except for images that are using database storage). With this setting then Smart Pix will also not check for database thumbnails when displaying files, which will make display much faster.
With removable devices (such as a CD-ROM or Zip disk), you may prefer to always save a thumbnail within the Smart Pix database, so that you can view thumbnails for images even if they are not available, i.e. when the removable device is not inserted (see the option below).
This option specifies that a thumbnail is added to the database for every image that is displayed.
Other:
If you are using saving your thumbnails in the Smart Pix database, then, by default, a thumbnail is displayed even for images that are not available (e.g. on a CD-ROM that is not inserted). However if you check this item, a special thumbnail (featuring a '?') will be displayed for missing files instead.
Click this button to add or remove thumbnails from the current database.
Smart Pix Manager supports Duplicate File Checking, it can monitor inserted files and compare them with existing files to ensure that the same file does not already exist (e.g. two images the same but with different filenames).
The following options are available:
If this is checked then whenever a file is added to the database a Unique ID will automatically be generated for it. This will slow down insertion but it will allow you to quickly locate identical files.
If this is checked then whenever a new file is inserted into the database, it will be compared with other files in the database to ensure that an identical file has not already been inserted
Smart Pix Manager stores the checksums for your files within its database to make the checking for duplicates much faster. It will automatically recreate checksums if it knows that a file has changed, however you may want to recreate checksums if modifications to files have been performed in other applications
